Performance descriptions across subjects

Performance descriptionsPerformance descriptions provide the basis for judging pupils' performance in PE. This section aims to assist teachers in assessing the development and progression of young disabled people and allowing them to measure their success.

"P" scales outline learning and attainment before National Curriculum Level 1 in eight levels.

Levels P1-P3
P1 to P3 are common across all subjects. They outline the types and range of general performance that pupils with learning difficulties might demonstrate. Subject-focused examples are included to illustrate some of the ways in which staff might identify attainment in different subjects.

Levels P4-P8
From level P4 to P8, many believe it is possible to describe pupils' performance in a way that indicates the emergence of skills, knowledge and understanding in PE. The descriptions provide an example of how this can be done.

National Curriculum levels
The National Curriculum performance descriptions consist of eight level descriptions of increasing difficulty, plus a description for exceptional performance. These enable the teacher to decide which best fits a pupil's performance over a period of time and in different contexts.
