Progression

Progression Indicators in PE

Progression indicatorsThis section is designed to help teachers accurately assess the development and progression of young disabled people operating below level 1 and at early National Curriculum levels.

The charts below, highlighted as "Can you" statements, build on an assessment model produced by the Wirral LEA Advisory Service. Their aim here is to help teachers identify potential talent. They may also help them in assisting pupils to make further progress.

The charts, which cover all elements of the PE curriculum, across all four strands, demonstrate attainment within the stated range but are not disability or age-specific. This will allow teachers to choose knowledge, skills and understanding from earlier or later Key Stages, so that individual pupils can make progress and show what they can achieve.

The indicators are not definitive or prescriptive - teachers should use them to assist in making rounded judgements about their pupils' attainment. Indicators have not been included, at this stage, for pupils in the P1–P3 band. This is because performance descriptions for these stages are common across all subjects, and it is assumed that disabled young people achieving Level 3 and above of the National Curriculum will be assessed using the schools' accepted criteria.
