Talent Identification

"Talented learners are those who have abilities in art and design, music, physical education, or performing arts such as dance or drama."

The template below is based on a model designed by David Morley and Richard Bailey. It has been developed to help teachers identify talented and potentially talented pupils in PE. Rather than focus on a specific sport, it encompasses the four strands of the National Curriculum and identifies those who are good at PE in general.

Whilst not a definitive method of identifying talent, it should provide the teacher with a way of working, backed up by their own school assessment systems, to assess the current ability level of their pupils and identify those with talent or potential talent.

To provide further assistance, we have also devised a series of, video examples, which show young disabled people demonstrating skills in agility, balance and co-ordination.

For the purpose of talent development, we would suggest that pupils achieving more than 70% in any section could be assessed as having potential and with the right guidance and commitment could make considerable progress in their chosen sport.

For young people who achieve less than 70%, opportunities are highlighted in the pathways section.
