Not all talented learners, particularly young disabled learners, are obvious achievers. Many actually underachieve - their potential masked by factors such as frustration, low self-esteem, lack of challenge, or low teacher/parent expectations. In some instances their disability or impairment can obscure their talent, and comparison with non-disabled peers is neither appropriate nor valid
Also, it is sometimes difficult to recognise potential talent in a disabled young person without detailed knowledge of their impairment and the standards expected in their particular field. The following video clips show examples of young disabled people performing skills in agility, balance and co-ordination at a level which demonstrates talent or potential talent.
